The new way of ordering: why inventory management and purchasing are inseparably connected

Many organizations still treat purchasing and inventory management as two separate processes. Purchasing ensures that materials are ordered, while inventory management focuses on what is in the warehouse. In practice, however, these two are inseparably connected. In fact, effective inventory management is really an extension of your purchasing process.

The challenge is always the same. You want to have enough stock to keep operations running, but at the same time, you want to avoid a warehouse full of materials that tie up money and space. Too much stock means unnecessary capital is locked in. Too little stock leads to shortages, delays, and frustration on the shop floor.

The key, therefore, lies not only in better inventory management but especially in better purchasing.

When your purchasing process is well organized, you can order much more strategically. You know what you need, when you need it, and from which supplier to order. This makes it possible to keep your inventory limited without the risk of running out. In other words, by optimizing your purchasing, you automatically optimize your inventory as well.

In practice, however, these processes are often spread across different systems. Orders are placed in one place, while inventory is tracked in another. This makes it difficult to maintain oversight and ensures that information is not always synchronized.

That’s why we believe it’s important for organizations to manage their inventory in the same system where they place orders.

As an ordering platform, BarTrack not only wants to simplify the ordering process but also ensure that purchasing and inventory are seamlessly connected. When these processes come together in one system, you gain oversight, avoid duplicate work, and can manage exactly what you really need.

For us, this is the next step in digitalizing purchasing processes.

We call this the new way of ordering.

Not just ordering from your suppliers, but also keeping control of what you have in stock. Not just reacting when something runs out, but looking ahead and purchasing smarter.

Ultimately, it’s not about having as much stock as possible, but about having exactly enough. And that starts with a purchasing process that perfectly aligns with your inventory management.
